SUMMARY:Don Nicanor’s circus
DESCRIPTION:Soloists:\n\nErnesto Mateo (toy piano)\nAna Hernández Sanchiz (narrator)\n\nThe Tenerife Symphony Orchestra (OST) offers in the Chamber Hall of the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín” a family concert, Don Nicanor’s circus. It is an illustrated musical tale for toy piano, violin, cello, tuba, harp and narrator, based on the book by Mar Benegas, Cómo abrió Don Nicanor el gran circo volador (How Don Nicanor opened the great flying circus). On this occasion there will be two performances for families, both on Saturday 29. The 11:00 a.m. performance (exclusively for families with babies under 3 years old. Free of charge. Limited seating). While the other, for families with children from 3 years old, will be at 12:30 pm and will be priced at 5 euros.\nErnesto Mateo’s toy pianos will be the center of this scenic concert and, accompanied by an ensemble of the OST and a narrator, will bring to the little ones the story of Don Nicanor and his circus, written in verse by the poet and pedagogue Mar Benegas. As a backdrop, the little ones and their families will be able to enjoy the illustrations by Ximo Abadía, which also accompany the texts in the album Cómo abrió don Nicanor el Gran Circo Volador, published in September 2015 with the publishing house Tres Tristes Tigres de Sevilla, and which includes a theatrical adaptation by Sefa Bernet.\nPart of the music will be a selection of themes by the pianist, Víctor Trescolí Sanz, included in his album Sons petits, as well as other pieces created specifically for this show and adaptations of repertoire works for cello solo or accompanied by piano.\n“This is Don Nicanor, who lived in a flower”. So begins the story told in verse of Don Nicanor, an altruistic and fantastic character who travels the world rescuing animals in trouble: a cow, a monkey, a penguin, a bear, a cat, a dog, a sperm whale, a donkey… Together they decide to open a circus in which each of them participates by contributing their peculiar skills.\nNarrator: Ana Hernández Sanchiz\nToy Pianos: Ernesto Mateo\nTenerife Symphony Orchestra Ensemble\nToy piano means toy piano and is the name used for this keyboard instrument, which has gone from the playroom to the concert halls. It was invented in 1872 by Albert Schoenhut, a German who settled in the United States. Instead of striking on strings, its hammers strike on metal plates, producing a sound that reminds us of the glockenspiel or carillon. The toy pianos can be made of wood or plastic and, although the first models were vertical, today we find many with grand piano format.\n
